I wrote this poem to God when I was struggling to find the light.
Enslaved by sin,

ashamed and broken.

Lies fill my head,

truth left unspoken.

Tied down and trapped,

I can't escape.

I try to run,

but it's too late.

"It'll feel good

to feed desire."

So I give up my life

for eternal fire.

All for a moment

of comfort and peace,

to calm my heart

and quiet the beast.

I am too weak

to put up a fight,

so I'll give in

one more time.

Every time I fail,

he gains strength.

If I reach for the light,

he increases the pain.

I am not alone

in this fight,

but darkness makes,

light burn your eyes.

I'm scared to face up

to all I've done.

With all this baggage,

it's hard to run.

I'm tired of listening

to all of the lies.

God, change my heart

and open my eyes.

Save me from

this misery

I'll give up the fire,

just set me free.

Take my hand,

I can't do this alone.

Carry me in the light

until You call me home.

I'm free from bondage,

free at last!

Released from the horrors

of my past.

I've left the darkness,

fire, and shame.

I'm covered by the power

of your holy name.
