An old relationship :) And yes, that (sigh) has to be in the poem.
Why can't you just wait?
Only for a few
more long seconds.
After all, silence is the best music.
It's like that Jazz
we use to listen to on
the late night radio station.
All you have to do, is
swim with me on that
itchy brown carpet you always hated,
and breathe in our invisible words.
But now, you never stay
to hear that Jazz.
Instead, you're too busy
rooting for that football team
you love so damn much,
and reading Hamlet or
worrying about some parking space
in an empty parking lot.
(sigh)
I believe you meet someone
more than once,
because people are changing.
You keep changing....
The only thing that stays
the same is that carpet,
and I admit, it is so ugly.
But, I loved every peice,
cause it smelt just like you
for days after you left.
And I knew it was your smell,
'cause my brain memorized it,
like we memorize words
said over and over again
in a Jazz song.
And when we met
for the third time,
you liked my shoes,
and I liked your smile.
But you were headed to the moon,
and I wanted to go swimming.
