Years of Polka Dots & Moonbeams

We've spent years absorbing
    polka dots and moonbeams
but we breathe in claustrophobic
    wanderlust,
existing in a Brazilian dream;
    real fantasy
being in imagination, the only
    life that never ages.
That bird ain't the same since
    he collapsed into light.
That bird ain't the same since
    she expanded into darkness.
Just tryin' to fly in the transient
    infinite, the rayless luminance.
Suspended in air, floating in
    a sentimental swing,
high & perched above that
    rainbow canal
whispering forgotten melodies
    of comforting pains
in some old stale change, where
    change equals same.
That bird ain't the same since
    she collapsed into light.
That bird ain't the same since
    he expanded into darkness.
Just tryin' to fly in the transient
    infinite, the rayless luminance.
