A woman is given a choice after she dies to pass on or stay on earth as a Soul Reaper
It is a curious thing, death. It’s like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark and thinking there is one more stair than

there is. Your foot falls down through the air, and there’s a sickly moment of dark surprise.

The sun was heavily shining, and the birds were chirping a whistling tune, cars were perfectly parked, houses painted the same

color and some had little lawn ornaments scattered among the freshly cut grasses. A perfect start to a perfect day, but one

person decided to sleep in on this perfect day. This person’s name was Christina Wellington or Chris as most people called her,

she was different than the others, even as a little girl, she played with boys and got into fights, rather than playing with Barbie’s

and doing other girl’s hair and painting nails with an assortment of colors. As she got a little older, she started to notice that

she was different; she began to notice that her interest in the opposite sex was merely mutual, and she began to take an

interest to women. Her mother didn’t like her new found discovery.

Her own mother called her weird and abnormal and told her to be normal; Chris’ rebuttal would to respond as such “What is

normal anyway?” Her mother would than sigh heavily and go about her business. By the time young Chris was seventeen, she

had met another young woman with the same interests as Chris, her name was Christina also, but Chris decided to nickname

her Chrissy. They were two peas in a pod, they did everything together, Chris’ mother was actually glad that Chris had found a

person with a common interest as her daughter, but what she didn’t know until Chris became eighteen was that Chris and

Chrissy were lovers. Chris’ mother was shocked, but then again she wasn’t.

Another “abnormality” as her mother would call it, was that Chris thought she could see peoples “expiration date” as she called

it. Chris as it turns out thought she could see peoples death date, and the odd thing about it was… she was right, not some of

the time or most of the time, but all of the time.

Her parents sent her to therapist after therapist, and psychiatrist to psychiatrist, she’s taken all sorts of medication but after a

while, and as a year went by, Chris turned nineteen, she refused to take anymore medicine and see any shrinks, but one good

thing came from seeing those people who couldn’t make it to medicine as she called them, was that she told them that she

couldn’t see her girlfriends death date, and that’s why she likes Chrissy. But little does Chris know was that although she could

see other peoples death date, she could not see her own.

She hears a loud bang on her room door, the banging gets louder and louder, she can only think one thing: her mom wants her

to look for a job. She groans at the thought, she pulls her pillow over her head to muffle the noise, but it didn’t work, the door

handle jingles, she smirks at how she knew to lock the door beforehand.

“Chris, I’m coming in!” her mother shouts

“Shit” Chris says to herself

Jillian, Chris’ mother found a way to open the door, there’s another bang then another and the door swings open, Chris jolts up,

knocking down a figure, and throws down two pillows, Jillian walks in the room, with her brownish blonde hair, black blouse, and

her two-inch black heels. She is disgusted at the sight she sees: Chris’ room, beer cans on the floor, ashes and cigarette butts

on the floor, dirty clothes everywhere, she steps in the room a little, trying her best not to step in or on anything. She looks

down at a white stain on the floor, and looks up disgusted at Chris.

“Ok, please tell me that that’s white paint” Jillian grimaced

“I can tell you it’s white paint, but we both know it’s not” Chris said smiling

Jillian walks towards Chris’ closet, pulling clothes off hangers

“What are you doing with my clothes?” Chris said still half-asleep

“You have an interview today with one of my clients, so I’m trying to find something decent for you to wear” Jillian said with a

matter-of-fact tone.

Chris groans at the thought of going to yet another job interview; she scratches her blonde head of hair yawns and plops right

back down on her bed. She remembers the last interview she had with another one of her mother’s clients.

She sat in the office, shaking her foot to pass the time, wondered what Chrissy was doing. She stared blankly at her interviewer.

A short, stout man, with a black toupee, he had long pencil-like nose, writing and muttering to himself, looking up at Chris and

her application, the man finally stopped writing, placed his pencil down, and gave an sigh, and finally said,

“Well, Christina, I only have one question to ask you: What makes you think that you’re qualified for this position?”

“Well Mr. Stedman, honestly, I really don’t think I’m qualified for this position, I don’t even want to be here, I’m here ‘cause my

mom thinks she can give me a handout, also, I’m pretty sure that you don’t want me here either, I mean, look at me, does my

demeanor tell you that I want to be here? ‘Cause if it does then I’m sorry, I really don’t give a shit about your position.”

Chris stands up, and walks towards the door, leaving Mr. Stedman dumbfounded.

“W-why are you doing this? You’re giving up a lot of money if you don’t take this job, I promised your mother that I’d give you

this position, if you walk out that door, you’d disappoint your mother.” Mr. Stedman stammers.

Chris was just about to turn the doorknob, and she turned around, and walked towards Mr. Stedman’s desk, smirking, she

reached the desk and leaned over it, showing cleavage. Stedman’s mouth ajar, she leaned close to him whispering,

“She’ll get over it”

She stood up, straightened her blouse, and walked towards the door a second time.

“Oh!” she said pointing her index finger in the air. “That road kill that’s on your head, isn’t fooling any one”.

Chris tried her hardest to hold back a laugh, but knew her mother would hear her, so she smirked instead. Jillian, still

rummaging through her closet trying to look for decent clothing; she looks down at the floor and sees a pink and black skirt,

with a glittered skull on the side; she picks it up, and examines it.

“This isn’t yours, where’d you get this?”

“I borrowed it from Chrissy” Chris said trying not to look her mother in the eyes.

“Since when do you borrow clothes? Especially skirts, you hate skirts.”

“Just because I don’t wear skirts, doesn’t mean I don’t hate them”

“Then why would you…”

Jillian sucks her teeth, drops the skirt, then looks Chris in her eyes; she gave a little sigh, and folded her arms.

“You can come out now Chrissy!” Jillian shouted

A groan came from the side of Chris’ bed.

“Oh bloody ‘ell, how does she always know?” Chrissy stood up covering herself with the two pillows Chris gave her. Chrissy was

about Chris’ height, with short black hair, blue eyes, with multiple piercings, she had a dragon tattoo on her right arm, and a

panda bear on her left.

“So that’s where I left me knickers, thanks Ms. Shapiro”

“It’s Mrs. Wellington” Jillian assured her

“Not what I heard” Chrissy said in a sing song tone

You could cut the tension with a knife; Jillian had a feeling that Chris told Chrissy about the problems Jillian and Chris’ father

were having. So Chris tried her best to change the subject by saying:

“Have I mentioned that I love your English accent?” Chris interrupted

“Thanks love, now if only I can find my underwear” Chrissy said muttering to herself.

“Oh, I have them, hold on” Chris said while searching under her covers.

“Here you go” Chris said giving Chrissy a pair of pink underwear.

“That’s right, love, you had on me underwear, I thought they were lost in the fray.” Chrissy said smiling.

Chrissy walking around the room trying to find her missing clothing, Jillian noticed something, on Chrissy’s back: a tattoo with

an arrow pointing down the crack of her butt.

'Chris’ Arse' what the hell’s an arse?” Jillian said with such shock.

“You know arse, arse…like the buttocks” Chrissy said nonchalantly.

With her mother still rummaging through her closet, and her girlfriend looking for her clothing, Chris couldn’t help but to laugh.

Both Jillian and Chrissy stared at each other, then at Chris in disbelief.

“What’s gotten into you darling’?” Chrissy said

“We’re all alive” Chris said, still laughing

Jillian groaned leaving a blue dress on Chris’ and left the room. Both Chris and Chrissy giggled like school girls, Chris took a

cigarette from her nightstand, and lit it, putting it to her lips inhaled and blew out a thick layer of smoke, Chrissy lays besides

her sighing heavily.

“Why the heavy sigh babe?” Chris said while smoke was leaving her breath.

“Well love, your twentieth birthday is in four days”

“And, so what”? Chris said with her shoulders shrugged

“Well, what do you want to do for it”?

“Anything love, as long as I get to spend it with you, we could watch a stupid movie, smoke weed, go to a party, smoke weed,

do nothing, or smoke weed.” Chris said laughing and smoke leaving her mouth

They both chuckled, then Chris leaned over on top of Chrissy and started to kiss her a passionate kiss, and then went down to

her neck, Chrissy moaned as Chris went further down.

“No, don’t stop” Chrissy said whispering to Chris

Chris went further down now down to Chrissy’s stomach, kissing every part of her, and then all of a sudden, the door bursts

open.

“Come on Chris, your breakfast is getting cold!” Jillian Yelled

“Mother, a little privacy here, the door was closed!” Chris yelled back

“You’ll get privacy when you move out!” Jillian finished but left the door open.

Both Chris and Chrissy groaned, and then laughed. Chrissy then put on her clothes, and saw that Chris was taking off hers.

Chrissy had a bewildered look on her face.

“What?” Chris said taking off her bra.

“What are you doing?”

“I’m going to take a shower” Chris said going into her bathroom. “And no you can’t come in. You know my mother gave me an

idea just now, why don’t you and I get our own place?

“You mean it?” Chrissy squealed “Oh I’m so freaking happy right now, I don’t even care that your mum walked in on us doing the

unthinkable”. Chrissy then hugged Chris and closed the door to the bathroom and said, “I’m going to be down stairs eating

some food, okay?”

“Yeah, sure” Chris said from beyond the bathroom door.

“Am I serious?”

“Do I want to do this?”

“Yeah, I do” Chris said out loud

Chris looked at her bathroom, clean as ever, rugs where they’re supposed to be, two toothbrushes on the sink, one for her and

one for Chrissy. Pink Her and Hers towels on the towel rod, a red sex toy on the sink, she turned on the warm water in the

shower, than washed up very quickly, when she was done, she took a towel off the rack and dried herself, then went back into

her dirty room to attempt to put on the blue dress her mother left for her, because she hasn’t worn it since she last bought it

which was a year ago. Then she walked downstairs to see her mother, father, and girlfriend all eating at the same table.

Chrissy, Jillian, and Chris’ father, Kyle, reading the paper. Chris’ father was very fit, he had a full head of hair and obviously

hung-over from ‘poker night’ with the guys, which Chris recently found out is really a night at a strip club with the guys. He wore

an odd expression every time he read the paper.

“I see you’re up Chris” Kyle, Chris’ dad said reading the morning paper

“I see you’re sober” Chris replied’

“Don’t you talk that way to your father Chris” Jillian snapped

“Well, why not? We both know that he’s searching the pond for bigger fish” Chris said, with a disgusted look at her father.

Chrissy nearly choked on a piece of bacon trying not to laugh. Chris took out a plate from the cabinet, and loaded it with eggs,

sausages, and pancakes then sat down.

“So…” Chris began “where is today’s stop for me?”

“It’s a temp job, all you have to do is answer the phone and leave messages… all you have to do” Jillian said leaving a stern look

at Chris

“Fine” Chris said eating a piece of bacon

“Wait…?” Jillian said, “what, no smart mouth, no remarks about the position?”

“No, just fine” Chris said chewing on bacon

“Oh” Jillian said with an unbelievable tone

“Looks like another perfect day” Kyle said turning over the morning paper

Kyle stood up stretched and yawned, “Well, back to the old grind at the office, bye dear” He leaned in to give his wife a kiss, but

she quickly denied his sweet gesture

“No, I’m still mad at you” Jillian said with a stern look on her face.

Both Chris and Chrissy giggled like schoolgirls, while they ate their breakfast. Kyle seemed obviously upset that he didn’t get a

kiss good-bye before he left for work. While the two young girls ate the meals, Jillian cleaned the kitchen, and walked out the

door, but before leaving Chris and saying good-bye reminded her to go to her interview with Mr. Gordon.

“Remember Chris” Jillian said handing Chris a post-it with an address on it. “Be there at 10 O’ clock sharp” She said with a

stern look on her face.

“What? Morning… evening?” Chris said with a smirk on her face.

“Morning smart-ass” Jillian said with a sigh then left for work.

Jillian left the house, leaving the two to do whatever they wanted. Chris still eating her breakfast, Chrissy looked at her puppy

dog-eyed.

“No, we’re not doing that” Chris said with food in her mouth.

Chrissy sucked her teeth and folded her arms.

“Can we at least have ourselves a bit O’ snogging?” Chrissy said still puppy-dog eyed.

“Mm no, sorry, listen its 9:15, and I got to be there in half an hour, okay? I’m really sorry”

Chrissy groaned and folded her arms and throws little hissy fit like a five year old, but it quickly subsided when Chris gave her a

kiss on the lips. Chris then leans in the give Chrissy a much more passionate kiss, both their chests pressed against one

another, Chris abruptly stopped the snog session Chrissy wanted, quickly got up off from the chair, cleared the table, and

rushed to Chrissy grabbing her by the sides, picking her up, and laying her on the table. Chris then continues to kiss Chrissy on

the lips, she slowly moves down to her neck, and then to her soft chest, she kisses every inch of her. Chris then looks at the

clock across the living room on the mantle.

“Oh shit” Chris says out loud “Its 9:20 I got to get ready”

Chris stopped where she was and rushed up the stairs to her room, and quickly got herself ready for her interview, with her

mother’s client. She put on her deodorant, and lotion, fixed her hair, and finally got dressed. And rushed back down stairs, with

her keys in hand, went to the kitchen where Chrissy sat dumb-founded, grabbed her by the hand, and raced to the door, locked

both locks, and rushed to her car.
