A free verse poem for the freedom of writing.
I'm up at three in the morning,
there's a vision in my head.
A dream that was more colorful
than any rainbow could be in its stead.
A place where a girl could do anything-
conquer mountains and not be afraid.
Sing out, and have a true voice
that wasn't tainted by attempts to fit in.
A place where everything seemed brighter
because of the perfect golden sunshine.
A forest with more greens than Ireland,
an ocean the Pacific can't hold a candle to in beauty.
Purple mountain majesties? You have no idea
until you've seen the masses of rocky hills
that border the western lands.
This dream- it seemed so honest.
Too good to be true.
A smile spreads across my face.
I can make it real.
I search out my well-worn notebook
find that favorite pen that's running out of ink.
I put pen to paper
to make my dreams come true.
More facets than a diamond,
more threads than a quilt,
dreams can give you anything
and writing makes them real.
A wise man once said that imagination is more important than knowledge.
He was right.
