HOW A SCARLET WOMAN IS JUDGED IN SMALL TOWN MINDS
In the cold, cold heart
Of a small northern town,
Where the winters they are chilling
And the wind makes a haunting sound.

There came to live a young woman,
Whose character was soon renowned.
They called her the scarlet lady
Of this friendly little northern town.

The local men came to see her,
While the women folk just frowned,
For they knew there was no place for her
In this little northern town.

One night in the hours of darkness,
A hand did strike the flame.
No one heard her screaming,
No one was there to blame.

All the people came to watch
On their way to church, next day,
They just stood there saying nothing,
Then slowly turned and walked away.

Nobody asked any questions
As to how the house burned down.
There's just no place for a scarlet woman
In this little northern town.

In the cold, cold heart
Of a small northern town,
Where the winters they are chilling
And the wind makes a haunting sound.
