A poem about the war involved with eating disorders.
Hidden inside, the voices crash like waves against my head,
Beating over and over, daring to be set free on the world.
Practice and patience hold them hostage,
Chaining them down without means of escape.
So loud with cries of anguish, guilt, helplessness and despair,
A battle waging within the empty shell that is me.
Never ending, the war between body and mind erupts,
Subsiding only when both sides are unable to continue on.
Slowly wasting away, the voices cheer and make their advance,
No longer held by bonds or shackles.
A fog appears, pulling the war in and out of a conscious realm,
Obscuring the vision needed to see.
Who now will announce defeat?
