looking back, looking forward

If I could be a child again
I would worry less
about what grown-ups think.
I would play more games,
and believe in everything!
I would spend more time
on the playground.
I would laugh
and be carefree.

If I were a child again
I would stop and listen
to the rain.
I would soak it up,
allowing myself to feel
every drop on my skin,
like a shower from God,
a gentle cleansing.

I would lay in the grass
gazing at the stars and
I would feel amazing.

Author's Note: A poem that stemmed from a writing excersise that prompts responses from the question "If I" - describe what you would do, how you would do it, where you would do it, and ending in exclamation of how you would feel.
