the heat of life and how these two deal with it.
without words

someone has said that out here in the wilderness
words can weave us clothes and tarps -
shimmering metallic shrouds
to toss ourselves under
duck into for shelter
wrap over our crouching shoulders like sheets

someone spoke of the silver city
that we left behind
we left round silohuettes of cautious faces
peering down from thousands of darkly-thick windows
as below it spills onto the streets as canals

out here, we're impossibly small before it
it gushes across the landscape in broiling waves
trees bulge and pulse and amplify its breath
grasses sigh and lift up into it
it forks apart through valleys before colliding back into itself

out here, it roars against our fluttering reflective tent
my hand rests assurance onto your warm back
heat vibrates through the fabric walls
for a moment, light illuminates
and i catch the shine in your blue eyes

your hand agrees around mine
you feel it too
the burning waves
the kind that cant be eluded
fast crackling accross the wilderness within yourself
this is why we are here

we relent

together, we let fiery fingers of flame reach out of our bodies
from out of our eyes and ears and tired mouths
we allow it to overtake our insides
so no longer will we tremble before the outside

you show no reservation
i slide aside the silvery fabric that is the doorway
you roll forward onto your knees

the enveloping current storms into our shelter
together glowing with temperature we gaze at last upon the wild

without words
