A Good Man Was He

There once lived a man deep in the wood
Who patiently waited as he could
For a fair maiden to enter his life
But all this waiting just gave him strife
He waited with the seasons
And when asked, he’d give all his reasons
That waiting was the right thing
He even had on reserve the ring
And many a girl made the trek to his home
And were able to see how in his existence he was alone
A good man was he
A man with whom they all wanted to be

One took his hand
And gave it to a guitar player’s band
One took his arm
And gave it to another with less charm
One took his leg
And gave it to a pirate with a peg
One took an eye
And he was no longer able to cry
One took half his brain
To give to another who had gone insane
One even tried to take his heart
But he fought and would not part
He struggled, he pleaded, and he wailed
But she broke it; off she sailed
