remembering my mom's hands
Mom's Hands

I remember they always caught my eye
Even as a little girl I was watching
Sometimes they were changing a diaper
Often they were doing dishes
Once I saw them pinch Daddys' butt
They would shovel snow or write a lovely letter
Long and slender
Elegant and always soft
The years never seemed to catch up
How many tears did they wipe away
Makeup was applied and taken off
Meals were prepared and tables were set
Coats were buttoned and shoes were tied
Painting was a passion
Colors filling her world
Who could ever imagine that one day
Those beautiful hands would be still
