A poem about individuality. Find the double meanings of "sun."
What is that? the little boy asked his mother.
Tis the sun a-settin in the West,
Is what she told the little child.
But it is nothing I have seen, he said.
That's because it changes; everyday.
I want to be like the sun, he said,
So that everyone who sees me knows that I
Am not another person, nor will they
Mistake me for an imposter.
Look at the moon, She said.
Isn't it grand. It rises and sets
And everyday it changes too.
Mommy, look, it shines too! he exclaimed.
But it doesn't, my child. It
Simply reflects the rays of the
Sun in such brilliance and beauty.
But Mother, it is not so pretty
If all it does is reflect the sun's
Shine. If I love the sun I want
To see it shine. Make the pale moon
Go away. I want to see the sun.
