This is how unexpected it was when I faced racism as a child.
It came in too fast, —
hit me right between the eyes.
How can someone hate me so much?
Does it matter if I'm biracial?

It took me by surprise.
That's not the only thing
that hit me between the eyes.
A fist would often find its way there.
