An "I am" Poem
I am open and honest.
I wonder how many people
are ashamed to cry.
I hear their words unspoken.
I see their tears unshed.
I want their truth unsaid.
I am open and honest.

I pretend that you are content.
I feel peace, almost aching
throughout your body.
I touch your face, now falling.
I worry about the words unsaid.
I cry your tears unshed.
I am open and honest.

I understand the past can
leave us wounded.
I say we are the makers of
our own destiny.
I dream I can fly and see the
seas below.
I try to move the mountains
below me.
I hope in the power above me.
I am open and honest.

Author’s Note: An “I Am” Poem: where one tells the story from a laid out perspective following a specific pattern while dwelling on specific verbs: I Am, I see, I want, I Say, I pretend…etc. a form of seeing all of it from the perspective of the eye of the beholder.
