ANCIENT ROCK FORTRESS IN SRI LANK A

              SIGIRIYA

It was named as the

eighth wonder of ancient world

a rock fortress of Sri Lanka

built by king Kasyapa

The entrance looks like

the mouth of a lion

it stands tall even today

reminds me of ancient wonder

there are frescoes you can see

inside the mighty rock

400 years after creating

paintings are as fresh as morning sun

King built a palace there

with pleasure gardens too,

cut a lake around the rock

to wade off enemies of state

there were crocks in the lake

the history tells

to guard the Sigiriya

the king had built

every year in thousands

tourists visit the place

there are bees in the rocks

to guard the Sigiriya

people say ' the bees are

ferocious as they come:

the soldiers to guard

the rock of Sigiriya'

graffiti still adorns the walls

when translated to Sinhala

it tells the story of

Sigiri damsels praying to gods!
