Poem taken from my first anthology, What if your regrets are not suffered in life??
Once I was born to live my life
To learn, to grow, to be then die
Once I like you felt misery and pain
Questioning life again and again

Once I rushed my childhood years
To fly, to know, to have adult peers
Once I housed a life of neglect
Never redeeming self respect

Once I craved my own little house
To fill, to love, to boast my wealth
Once possessions were never enough
I left myself wanting more of the stuff

Once I clung to physical youth
To vanity, to chattels, to lies not truth
Once I like you ate and slept
My hunger unending, my needs unmet

Once I had forgotten mortality
To realise, to cherish, to spend time wisely
Once is all I needed to regret
Now eternity won’t let me forget
