This is a poem inspired by a character out of a book I read called Jinx by Margaret Wild.
voices{/}

They speak to me
When I am alone,
They tell me about you.
Now I know you, they know you too,
And they will never let you have me.
They hate you.
They show me your flaws,
Open my eyes,
Make me see.
They show me what I try not to see.
They open me to the coldest of your ways.
And they make me hate you.

voices

Echoing in the darkest corners,
I hear them.
They hate me.
They whisper in my ear,
Feeding my fears,
They tell me what I want to hear,
They feed my insecurities.
And they make me hate me.

i try to drown them out
i try to keep myself awake
i won't let them hiss at me
make me hate everything

But they persist.
They want me to fail,
And I want to fail too.
They want me to fall
And now I'm falling.

i turn up the sounds
to drown them out
but i can't stop them!
they hate me
and i hate me too

voices

in the darkness i tie knots
and i tie them tight
i loop loops and i loop them right

And the voices have won.
