A poem about a girl and her drug addicted boyfriend. Her struggle with it and the outcome.
Thinking back,
I know how you lied,
Looking back,
I know how you tried.

Seeing you there,
Stopped my heart each time,
I wait for the day when
I can put this feeling into rhyme.

I try so hard to let you know,
I want to try,
Now that you’ve fallen so low,
But all I can do is cry.

You walk farther away,
Pausing a time or two,
With each passing day,
I want to be there with you.

But on drugs you cannot see,
The love that I gave,
You fight with me,
Yet all I can do is be brave.

You slip away so fast,
Fallen through the cracks,
I tried to make us last,
Now that I’ve had to face the facts.

I tried to help,
To keep our love strong,
Your friends tried to help,
They knew I was wrong.

I couldn’t help you, you see,
Now that you lie in your grave,
You wouldn’t stay with me,
All I can do, is try to be brave.

On drugs you couldn’t see,
The love I tried to give,
No more can you be here with me,
So all I can do is live.
