Funk in hip-hop is one's irreducible pulse or life force.
We read to know we are not alone

In the knowledge that someone else

Is experiencing the same feelings

We draw comfort in that

We write because we are alone

Loneliness is the defining uniqueness of human existence

For with all we have around us

We must ultimately complete the journey of Life on our own

Our voice, therefore, is the most precious gift we must protect

To silence is to commit the gravest of sins

To exploit is to destroy with no benefit

But each generation must rise and take responsibility of their voice

Stop.  Listen.  Not to me, but to your own heart

We fear that which is most familiar

Not because it is unknown

But because we hold a mirror and see the reality that we are

When will we end our obsession with mediocrity?

When will we transcend our trials to exhaust our potential?

This has nothing to do with our education

This is about our life, our existence, and our happiness

This is about being comfortable with the realization

That one day we will cash in our chips, buy the farm, and check out

It may be by the end of this verse, this evening,

This year, or many moons from now

But when that moment comes

What will we be able to say?

Did we contribute to the voice of our generation?

Will we be able to let go and hope for the best?

If the answer is no, then we must do something about it now

We must transcend the mediocrity and stand for something

And it begins with two simple steps

Stop and listen to your heart
