Poem about the dark, painful place inside. 1st PLACE WINNER: Endless Night Poetry Contest.
I Live in Darkness
(Free Verse Style)

I live within
This place inside
Of poison rain
Where monsters lie.
Their half asleep,
Enormous bodies
Weigh heavily
On my soul.
Like the bulk
Of undigested,
Bad food,
Old and rotting
In my gut,
They nauseate
And sicken me.

Half-awake
They stir and move.
They turn and look.
They terrify me,
Constrict my chest.
My breathing sticks.
An invisible knife turns,
Cutting the soft flesh
Deep in my body.

I live here
Where demons stab,
And gremlins play
Cruel mischief games
With my own aching
Hidden ghosts,
The half-seen
Reservoirs of Pain,
The angry fire
That rages and burns
And craves in vain
For deadly revenge,
The stench and drone of
Old, stale resentments
Eating me alive,
The fear of future Pain
And future disaster,
The horror and terror of
What has been,
What is now, and
What may come.

Deep down
In here
Where no one sees
But me
My soul,
The hidden level
Of my mind,
Which gasps and hurts
And struggles
In secret from
The world out there
For every moment
Of my life.
The torment layer.

Dark Poetry.
Now
This haunting,
Silent screaming,
Heartfelt aching,
Cold, tormented
Me inside,
Trapped deep in
The buried earth,
Eternally alone,
Has
A Voice.
