I was writing a poem for her birthday, but she passed before so it became this.
Grandmothers are given a special trust,
Someone to watch over, and guide you whether or not they must.
Somone to listen when things get rough,
Someone who teaches how to make it when times get tough.
You've been through so much, yet you kept fighting back,
No one can say strength of spirit you lacked.

But some things lie in God's hands,
His way, some things just must be,
You taught me to trust in him,
Your love and faith have helped guide me.
It's time to rest now, never again any more pain,
It saddens me though, never will my life be the same.

I do have many wonderful memories to cherish always,
Ducks on the pond, Pilgrim Festivals, our trips to the farm.
When a butterfly flits by, or I smell the scent of a rose,
I'll know you're watching (with Him) to keep me from harm.

I love you more than I thought you had known,
And with this, my last gift, I had hoped to show,
My heart tells me now though, you knew all the time
So there was never a need to put it to rhyme.
I've prayed for God to take you under his wings,
That in the Angel's choir, a new voice now sings.
My heart tells me now you have shed old scars,
That when I look to Heaven, I'll see a new face in the stars.

It is difficult for those of us who have stayed behind
To understand why we must all have our time.
But I know that some reasons are only for God to see,
Because you taught me that His way, some things just must be.
