How can one be so easily hurled from light to darkness?
Sad feelings crowd my mind
and gloom refuses to leave me alone.
You,once my role model,
have let me down!
How can I take it
from you, once our teacher,
you,our hero during our teen-age years,
you, the iconoclast
with your provocative,
unconventional views,
you with your dashing,
inspiring personality,
you, with your unshakable faith
in your final victory,
you, who exhorted us
to struggle for a bright future!
Ah! How can I take it from you?
It is sad today to see you,
sitting on a roadside bench
like a tramp,
with a shabby growth of beard,
with a few missing teeth
probably lost in a drunken brawl,
your once handsome face
looking ugly and fearsome,
and your mind sunk
in an ocean of alcohol,
a picture of utter defeat.
You brush me aside,
saying,
"I am in a bad state of mind."
My dear sir!
I wish
you go home,
take a clean shave,
have a nice shower,
put on some clean clothes,
and cheer up your mind,
with those inspiring thoughts
which you once imparted to us.
But I know,
you will never do that,
you will drown yourself
in your grief,
and when it becomes unbearable,
you will numb your mind,
by soaking it in alcohol.
You will resume
your irrevresible slide
down the one way slope
to destruction,
and you will destroy
a part of me too,
diminishing me for ever.
