this is a reflective poem encountering impending change of season
Butterflies In My Mind
A Reflective Glance At Seasons Past

Awakening this morrow
To my familiar romp of walking
From room to room surveying and contemplating
This I will have to start
That I shall have to finish
My shower is in the works deep in my mind
Pushing me forward but first
Let me free my sink from a few dishes
Let me tidy my bath a bit
Let me check email I want to get
Those I don’t want to skip
I am designing greetings on paper and PC
I’m looking perhaps envelopes I will find
Alas this room is sunny and clear
Empty of things it should possess but yet
What’s that I see fluttering down through my Venetian blinds?
It’s dancing so strangely elegant and pronounced
Beautiful site this butterfly sashaying in flight
Much more ballet than that quick step
I remember it dancing through my summer’s office window
What a profound display of mesmerizing flight!
Wait, there go some more and more and more
What a perplexing yet beautiful sight those butterflies wandering out
On such a frosty uninviting cold  - yet they continued to dance and dance
Telling me sit, don’t get up to open the blinds lest you disturb their flight.
But I could not resist seeing their marvelous colors and shapes in abandoned flight.
Hurriedly I stood and rushed to the window in the midst of their fluttering dance
At once I drew open the blind from fear they would fly away
Before I could witness and behold them inside my eyes
Alas I saw the remnants of one falling leaf, followed by more and more
At last falling with grace mimicking butterflies of the spring,
summer and fall
Looking beautifully sad yet showing grace through it all
And telling us another season really has gone by
Hold on tight please and don’t despair because this season, winter, is here
Cold it may be but beauty it holds as well, it still mimics the season before
Telling us truly it will be back for us to bask in it once more!
Happy Holidays 2007
