A poetic self portrait
I look in the mirror and I see a girl
With a wide-eyed innocent grace
The harshest pain she's ever known
Is a scar upon her face

I look to my left and I see the book
In which she scribbled her fears
Little she knew as life progressed
It was only to provoke tears

I look in my mind and I see a woman
Who's been forced to grow up too fast
She understands all yet understands nothing
And cannot remember her past

None understand and all pass her by
Assuming she's clever and well
Seeing only her wise exterior
Instead of her empty shell

I look in my soul and I see unease
That constant pressure brings
How having no possible outlet for pain
Accumulates mountains of things

Beneath those burdens lies the truth
Behind a door that's slightly ajar
But removing each pain that surrounds that door
Is always one heartache too far

I desperately try to look in my heart
To find what I’ve hidden there
But lies upon lies over years of deceit
Have left it's chambers bare

I remember that little girl's heart was full
Full of love and free of care
But if you can break through all of my pain
There's a place, just for you there
