This poem is about humanity and how nature might describe mankind.
I remember when first we met, so bold you were, and fearless
Of everything about me, yet you did not know me.
Running, splashing, fearless, thrashing, you began.

I saw you frequently those years when you were young and so alive.
I don't think I ever saw a tear roll from your sparkling eyes.
Jumping, dancing, courageous, prancing, you grew.

As years went by I saw a change in your charming disposition.
You shunned me--That's when I first saw any sign of apprehension.
Fearful, timid, sulking grimace, you became.

I saw you less as years went by. You joined the race of men,
But once a year took off your tie, and slept upon my sand.
Hustling, bustling, fighting, fussing, you struggled.

Many a time I thought of you as you were long ago.
Your fearless eyes and mischievous smile, your tender cheeks aglow.
Watching, thinking, wondering, drinking, you grew old.

Then one day to my surprise I saw a face I scarce recalled.
Rosy cheeks with fearless eyes, lines of age on a brow that's bald.
Wisdom, solving, understanding, resolving, you died.
