FORGOTTEN

The vows we took so long ago were made
and sincerely a bright future was planned.
How time can change the way we feel
is something that I just don't understand.

The promises have all been forgotten,
the love, honor and cherish are lost.
You turned away with hurtful words and
didn't care about the emotional cost.

I try to remember that we change and grow
and sometimes our pathways will divide.
Somehow I always thought we'd work it out
but you are no longer here by my side.

In years to come I may not remember
the pain that came with the divorce.
In years to come you may be forgotten,
that you didn't give me any choice.

Tears are falling, you're no longer calling;
there's no one at home when I call.
Another tomorrow may ease the sorrow
and it won't matter to me, after all.

I'll forget the pleasure of being together
and go on with my life as best I can.
The memories will all be forgotten
by a sadder, wiser and lonely old man.
