Poem about the fading of a relationship.

If only things were the same as yesterday
Love wasn't for sale
A calm breeze from the ocean
Healing what is now bleeding
Hearts forever so revealing
Can't hold back the poison
Flowing freely from this pen.

I forgave you once and
Can't do so again
A faithful friend now
A sworn enemy
It's a chore to act civilly
The promise is broken
Our peace has been spoken
We can't continue on
We must move along...

A love can't be reborn
For we're suffocating
On the imbillical cord
Allegiance to the unconscious mind
A freudian slip of the tongue
The illusion of Holy Matrimony
Viciously undone
Swiftly thrown back in time
To a past relationship that
Hasn't seen the end
My sympathies for your lack of insight
In deciphering the obvious clues
of deception
For the rumour is you've been damanged
since conception
Forgive me for being part of the problem
I longed to be your solution..

There is no need to hang our heads
We've already tied the noose
You're confused of how to continue
I'm relieved to see the light
Beyond this darkened tomb
I'd rather die from poverty
Than keep up false pretenses
When the truth is...
I'm not in love with you
Yes, the subtle difference
Between the deaf and the blind
I would be wasting my breath
and borrowed time in putting faith
In a love that's dead
We've already used our only miracle
For once.. let's live in reality.

Detractors, non-believers
Some lovers and few friends
Are now reaping the rewards
Of what we said was a sucker bet
They were right in the long run
Yet can't take away the last four years
I can't stand to behold the harrowing sight
Of haughty laughter and pats on the back
They never had the balls to take a chance
On what lied outside their closed minds
No hope in the underdog
Champions of the insufferably predictable
Popularity an ever-changing state
We've outlived our usefulness
A new scab waits to be picked..

There is no shame to hide within
Or guilt to withdraw from
When it's all said and done
and the ink has dried on the divorce decree
We did our best
I refuse to allow you
To mire away in misery
We were fit to be tied
Since jumpstreet
Paid the ultimate sacrifice
Trying to save the other
From being buried haphazardly
Beneath the autumn leaves
When we should have been rescuing ourselves.
