I was in pain and an iffy relationship. This was born from that insecurity.
Creature new her lies.
Read them as easily as she read the truth of her own existence.
For all of Demon's lies, Creature loved Demon.
She spun her lies so prettily and easily that Creature would for a moment lie to herself -
and Demon's lies were the only way that Demon could love Creature.

She shivered again against the Darkness.

Creature had been in love with a God once,
a god Terrible and strong.
He had sheltered Creature from the rough cruel edges of the world
and made her believe that her wings could actually make her fly.

She looked again at the state of the gray feathers,
Broken and standing in crude angles against what had
once
been the beautiful line of her wing.

An immortal promise, now broken and aching.

Demon's lies made the sharpness of the reality
of her broken state
ease for a time.
Demon's lies were nothing more than a drug though,
for when Demon left Creature,
She would no longer be safe from the truth of the pain her broken wing was in,
and that it
would
never
heal.
