short poem on growing up and making choices....the hard choices
Trying to recreate the magic
of a beautifully reckless youth
is impossible once life becomes far more
than another burden in the morning.

Once you've experienced life as a guiding companion,
rather than a spited enemy,
you can appreciate its value,
and for the first time, the petty shit,
all the shit that seemed so goddamn important
in our private little hells...
is seen for what it is...

Everything was a test...
a measure of one's strength of character...
a measure of our desparation
and an oppurtunity to choose...
to choose to walk upon a wiser path
of self-awareness.

Free will is a gift...
but Free will is still a bitch...
cuz once life becomes your enemy...
prepare to embrace the pain,
and yield to the rapid consumption
of gradual self-destruction.

I guarantee you...
