Hope and Despair
Beam of light

Despair,
Darker than a lonely room,
Darker than a blackout
Darker than a day with no sun,
Darker than a night with no moon
Darker than space with no stars, planets, or life,
Darker than a cave with no entrance or exit

It’s like a shadow
Covering everything with eternal darkness

Within that darkness
There is always a single beam of light.
What point is there to block it off?
Nurture it,
Let it grow,
Who knows?
Someday it may erase the shadow.
