An old musing from the middle of a physics lecture, recently remembered - May expand
She stood, poised to run. Many had tried to tame her, but none had ever succeeded. The river flowed all around her, begging her to run with it. He stood, watching, his eyes pleading for her to stay. Pain wrenched his heart as she turned her face into the wind. Her dark hair flew freely behind her and he caught his breath, admiring her profile. He knew she could not, should not, would not come back if she left. There was nothing left for her here. The freedom-loving woman took his heart with her as she faded away, no more than a memory now. A tear rolled down his cheek as he stood, frozen, knowing there was no longer a reason for him to go on.
