A poem I wrote two days after the events of September 11th...
Proud Lady Liberty,
Bears the torch of freedom with pride,
But on the eleventh day,
Nine months into the twenty-first century,
Her sorrow she cannot hide,
As terror strikes her shores,
Destroying the twins,
Of Great New York,
And the heart of our defense,
She cries in pain,
"Why must people be so cruel",
She drops her book and torch,
In her sorrow,
And takes in her arms the fallen,
The men, the women, and children,
The firefighters, police, rescue teams,
Who died,
As the the great twin towers, and symbol of our defense fell,
Though the people who's freedom she symbolizes,
Will not forget,
They will not fall,
They will rise to quell her sorrow,
To prevent the tragedy from happening again,
They will be united,
With the help of their friends and allies,
They will aid in any way,
No matter from the walk of life they come,
They will make this world safe again,
From those who wish to destroy,
Life so precious,
United to attain a peace,
So the the freedoms she protects remain safe,
And that the great Lady Liberty never needs to cry in sorrow again.
