This poem is about an abused child.
I suffered everynight
cried myself to sleep
heard the words of a drunken mother
words that cut so deep
pain ran up my legs
bruises down my back
a busted lip and a black eye
only states the facts
the tortured cries of a beaten child
that child, that is me
the punches and slaps of a hateful mother
destroyed who I could be
Is there love in the heart of my unmerciful mother?
for me, who needs it so much
Will the pain always be there?
Will I still flinch from her touch?
I hate my mother for what she did,
but I do forgive her
and she regrets everything that happened,
but I still had to suffer
