A young girl's account of a terrible situation.
Her small hands cupped her mouth, she tried not to scream.
She wanted it to be over; she wished it was a dream.
She tried not to listen, she didn’t want to hear
She watched him so silently, her body shook with fear.
This was it and she didn’t know what to do.
Daddy was angry, mommy was through.
She silently begged for him stop; she wanted it all to end.
She held her stuffed toy close, for it was her only friend.
She wanted to get closer, she wanted to say goodbye.
She knew what was going on, mommy was going to die.
She closed her eyes and bowed her head.
She prayed to God, leaving nothing unsaid.
“I need your help, and I need it fast”.
“I don’t know how much longer she’s going to last”.
“He’s upset again; it’s the second time today”.
“God, please take us somewhere else, somewhere safe and far away”.
Her youthful green eyes reflected all the pain in the world,
She was only five years old; she was just a little girl.
