This is a short poem I wrote several years ago....

SHADOW

In the shadow of hope
lies a promise
broken beyond repair
A forgotten pledge
that died, unkept
of loneliness and despair
Hope may be
what drives us on
despite our butchered trust
but neglect, it is
what spoils love
and turns it into lust
We tend to drop our faith
by the wayside
saying "Love does not exist!"
If we don't believe
we can't regret
the joys we may have missed.
