A poem about retaining the innocence of childhood...
Let Me

You were like me once.
Maybe you refuse to remember it,
But you were like me…

Please let me have hope.

Let me believe
Everything happens for a reason,
I have a purpose
I can choose between right and wrong
I will not be caught between
Shades of gray.
Choices will always exist

Let me be taught
I can make a difference
That all people can be understood
Compromises can be reached
All bad can be stopped if only
We stand together.

Let me have faith that
I can write and be read
I can speak and be heard
I can act and be noticed
I can love and be loved.

Let me envision a world
Where light floods the shadows,
Illuminating every corner
Of darkness.

I have time to be like you
I have time to doubt goodness
To expect the worst
To get caught in the riptide
Of ulterior motives
And personal gain.

Let me take my time.
Let me choose.

Let me dream.

You were like me once,
But I will never be like you.
