This is a poem inspired by seeing my father cry

When he awoke to see the day, his world was painted shades of gray
Yet, the darkness peeked into his heart; his candle burned a cold pale spark
-And all the while, he could not understand, why he felt it, for he was just a man.
The pain had spread right before his eyes, it helped him see, and yet it made him blind.

For, now the world seemed so small and bare, engulfing him without a care.
-And the darkness slithered from all sides, there was nowhere left to run and hide
He had to face his fears and truths, in the eyes of his forgotten youth
The memories flooded his unwinding heart, and the seams of him were ripped apart

-And the sudden silence that remained, for the man who once was, now had changed
The tears that welled to his surprise, formed a puddle, behind his barren eyes
How long it had been since he had felt such peace, a bitter reminder, a sweet release
For now in his darkness only shadows remained, and from the spark of his candle,
A beautiful flame.
