I wrote this for my Poppa, because of what he said about a bridge and a palace.
"Across the bridge is a beautiful palace"
Poppa said as he rocked in his chair.
I said "What, a bridge and a palace?"
He said "Yes, would you please take me there?"

How could I possibly take him there..
to try and make him happy today?
As I helped him into his wheelchair
an idea began to come into play.

The home where he lives is split in two
and divided up in this way..
one part of the home is modern and new,
The rest from Victorian days.

As we explored the lovely old part
My Poppa began to cry.
His tears and sorrow tugged at my heart..
and I hugged him and asked him why..

"I wish I could buy this place for you..
'cause for you I want only the best..
it seems to me it's the least I can do..
for you have always been my Princess."

"Poppa you gave us a beautiful life,
there was nothing for which we lacked..
You loved and cared for your children and wife,
and this we can never pay back."

Oh yes, there's a bridge and a palace..
with all manner of beautiful things..
He will cross it with joy, when his time comes to pass,
and he finally meets the true King.
