A poem about the link between nature and society
Glittering golden, and sending wild flames of rainbow across the horizon, the sun sets.
Slowly, it’s fire, despite great luster and hues, dies out
Making way for darkness…
Creeping subtly into the sky
The night engulfs the atmosphere.
Shadowed secrecy emerges and
it beckons in whispers from eerie swamps, secluded by mist
from unfamiliar forests shadowed in uncertainty

The night calls in unfamiliar voices
But switch suddenly to the city
With it’s intense city lights and large, illuminating dynamic crowds
Calling out in shouts and shrill screams of animation
Millions rushing here or there
All strangers, yet enclosed in a union
Of motion
Of life
Pavement roaring of a million clicking heels
Air thick with industrial smoke and the breath of hundreds of thousands panting,
as they run to their next and newest destination
The sky a smoky charcoal black, fog sheltering the city
The air, the ground, the sky, are alive with exhilaration

Two worlds, each different, each beautiful, each blind,
at there borders and at their core
For as night tries to gaze into the busy, bright city, it sees only looming buildings with no life or spirit
And as one, lone city soul gazes out into the night, she sees only the glow of her reflection
