A short poem about the heatwave currently encompassing the globe.
Heatwave

Here I sit and swelter
from the heat there is no shelter
down my forehead sweat does drip
salty liquid on my lip

this heat is so unbearable
the effects of it are terrible
many people of it die
lakes and streams have become dry

how long will the heatwave last
until all the records have been passed?
I wish autumn would come soon
I'm sick of feeling like a sand dune

Sometimes rain gives us a break
but it does not replenish the lake
the plants slowly wilt
towards the ground they do tilt

the grass turns from green to brown
in the oppressive heat does it drown
soon the geese will have nothing to eat
because of the oppressive heat

little kids play with garden hoses
dogs assume dead-like poses
adults bask with a fan
since the heat began

cities declare state of emergency
try to conserve power with urgency
but blackouts it does not stop
and will continue until the mercury does drop
