A young woman's self-image vs. her fiance's.
hustling down the street
tailored suit restricts
Her to tiny steps
in expensive italian shoes.
copper penny curls
frizzing in Her round face
hiding the snapping hazel eyes.
She bellows an insult
as She ricochets off another
innocent person
stepping on toes
to get where She wants, demanding
Her Turn
like a petulant child.
blowing into the room
a hot breeze on a 100 degree day,
She slides into the chair
next to Her fiancé.
“hey baby,
sorry I’m late.”
he tickles Her sides
his fingers
ten welcome torturers.
gleeful laughter
erupts from Her throat
ripping through the gentle hush
of peaceful diners.
they snigger together
and he whispers on Her cheek,
“i wish the world
could see you
like this.”
