A little something for my son

Pride swells on the heals of love while I gaze at my precious son
“Mine”
The statement is defying in a way…
So bold, for being such a small word…it fills me with awe
“Mine”
Soft hair the color of golden wheat crowning a cherubic face
Satin smooth cheeks aglow and flushed with good health
Strawberry lips puckered always for a kiss
Eyes the color of the sea awash in a full moon’s silvery glow
And lashes so long and dark they make even me envious
“Mine”
Impish smiles that fill my heart to the aching point
Beguiling eyes glinting with mischief and adoration
Giggles and hugs that make every day the best of days
“Mine”
My true name borne upon a voice as sweet as a nightingale’s chirp
‘Mama! Mama!’
Unconditional love as sweetly rounded arms are flung about my legs
Simple pleasure and quiet joy as he snuggles close
His head upon my breast, beautiful lashes kissing his round cheeks
Safe and secure, his warm scent wrapping around me
Comfort in his weight cuddled close to me
“Mine”
I whisper it, amazed at the concept…think it, with selfish glee…proudly say it aloud
“Mine…all mine!”
As surely as I am all his
