Review of Wonderful
Review by Jeremy Paul
Rated: E | (4.5)
At first read through, I thought the poem was pleasant but it didn't grab me. When I read it again, the line "I know it could be haunted" stuck out to me as I am recovering from a breakup. And the word "But" in a line by itself... my eyes kept stopping at that line. Love it haunted ...BUT... Love is wonderful. That one choice the poet made was a reminder for me to have hope.

I love the opening line. "Angel white" as a color description in a Christmas poem is perfect. I'm having a hard time with the second stanza. I think it is either the shift back and forth between plural and singular between the second and third lines. I think the opening and ending are strong. The first time I read it (for your consideration) I missed the period after demonstrated in the last stanza. I read "Hostess who has demonstrated (alongside all the happy giving) all the truths we shall be living." It changes the meaning a bit, but ties back to the pressure on the Christmas host.
