Summary of this Book...
Huck is written by a journalist, Janet Elder. It's about a longed-for little dog adopted by a family of a little boy who has longed for a dog since he was four years old. He even made a PowerPoint presentation at age eleven about why it's sad not to have a dog. But still, the busy New York parents refused to get him one, thinking it was unrealistic for their hectic lives. That is until one fateful doctor visit changed their whole perspective.

Janet was diagnosed with breast cancer. Together, with her husband they decided that to soften the blow of the news and all that was to come, after the treatments, their little boy would finally receive the puppy he has dreamed about for so long.

That day finally came and everyone quickly fell in love with the new addition of a toy poodle to the family. Pretty soon, they couldn't imagine life without Huck. The rambunctious, lovable pup.

When they went on vacation to Spring Training, they left Huck with Janet's sister's family. On their third day, they got the dreaded phone call that Huck had escaped out of the back fence and could not be found. Without hesitation, they boarded an early plane back into a country town outside of New York, where Huck was wandering the roads. Huck was tiny, barely six pounds and he was lost with temperatures dropping close to freezing at night.

They posted flyers everywhere and hit businesses and even schools. Pretty soon, it seemed the whole town was helping to look for Huck - from school kids to police officers.

It's a story of how one little lost dog brought together the whole community. It's a story of love for one another, love for a lost dog, and the support and care of a town.
