Summary of this DVD...
This is a wonderful film. It is about Truman Capote and his best friend (Harper Lee) and their research on the book, In Cold Blood, based on the true story of a murder of a family in Kansas.

In 1959-60, Capote and Lee traveled to Kansas to investigate the murders for the book. Truman Capote read an article in The New York Times and it inspired him to write about the as yet, unsolved murders.

When the murders were solved, Capote got to know Perry Smith (one of the killers) very well and visited repeatedly, befriending him and even seeking expensive legal representation for the pair of killers. In the end, it became clear that Capote just wanted them to be executed so he could write the finish of his book.

A selfish friend, he barely acknowledged it when Harper Lee's book, To Kill a Mockingbird won the Pulitzer Prize and was made into a legendary film.

He is revealed as a self-absorbed predator, who has a lot in common with killer, Perry Smith. This shakes him up and while he writes a brilliant book with In Cold Blood, it's the last book he ever writes.

I thought Philip Seymour Hoffman and Catherine Keener were brilliant as Truman Capote and Harper Lee. This wasn't the film I was expecting, but it was a revelation and a disturbing one at that.

Wonderful movie, characters and story.
