Summary of this Book...
John Eldridge's Epic is a story of the Author, the need for a Story, and the human heart. It explains the need in the human heart for a Story, whether it be a fairy tale, a short story, a novel, a movie, or a play. Eldredge points out that creation cannot be an accident, that our passions and our souls are too complex to be simmered down to a mathematical equation. He also points out that every Story has a Villain, and in this world, in our great Story, we choose to ignore that fact. Everything we know about how to make a great Story is in fact represented in our world - and to be a character in that Epic is an amazing and wonderful thing.
This type of Book is good for...
This book is a necessity for any author searching to know why their heart is built the way it is. Many people identify with the characters in the Story, but as authors - we identify with the Author and His need to create.
I especially liked...
the way the Story was presented. Eldredge breaks the book out into four acts, much like a play. He uses well known movies, fairy tales, and stories to make his points and this makes the book easy to relate to from any background a person could have. The imagery Eldredge is capable of is astounding, and is displayed at its best in this book.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
buy a copy for every person I knew, especially those who create.
This Book made me feel...
like there was a wonderful thing going on around me. I caught myself smiling at the book in certain places and crying at some parts. I am not simply an accident. The world is full of wonders.
The author of this Book...
John Eldredge
I recommend this Book because...
It identifies with the soul of an author. It explains the romance, passion, and need to create that we all feel in an indescribable way in our heart.
