Summary of this Book...
In 1857, Daniel Paradine and his family are on their way to Oregon Territory, unaware that they and the people in their wagon train are about to encounter an ancient evil that will destroy some of them and change the lives of those who survive it forever. Daniel finds himself the unwanted object of interest of the demonic force that is terrorizing the pioneers. It's every man for himself and his only priority is the safety of his wife and son. Will he make a deal with the demon in exchange for their lives? The ending is quite surprising, for the journey the demon takes Daniel on is one of shocking revelation and in some dark ways of surprising beauty. Daniel unknowingly comes to terms with his own spiritual conflict. His life will never be the same.
This type of Book is good for...
This is a great adventure/supernatural thriller for those who love Christian suspense. Shane Johnson is a great writer and this latest work only proves he keeps getting better.
I especially liked...
I liked the journey back in time that the demon took Daniel Paradine on. It was vivid and wonderfully descriptive. I almost felt like I was there. Places included are Babel, Egypt, Philistia, and Jerusalem.
I didn't like...
The content is very gory for sensative readers. And for those who scare easily, I do not reccommend this book.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
I felt like I wanted to cheer on Daniel for his choice in the end. It wasn't surprising but its outcome was.
This Book made me feel...
I felt strangely uplifted by this book. Like his earlier masterpiece, "The Last Guardian", Shane Johnson's writing style is superb. I felt scared, cynical, inspired, and many other emotions.
The author of this Book...
Shane Johnson has written two previous novels, "The Last Guardian" and "ICE". He served as producer/director for the video documentory "Apollo 13:Flight For Survival." He lives in Texas.
I recommend this Book because...
This is a great read for anyone going through a spiritual struggle. It's uplifting at the end.
I don't recommend this Book because...
It is scary for sensative readers. Some may be offended by its content.
Further Comments...
I also highly reccommend Shane Johnson's first novel "The Last Guradian".
