This poem is about child abuse.
Hiding in the shadows of life,
Behind doors of unforgiving sadness,
With no one to talk to,
No one to care,
A little girl cries tonight.

Lonely in this dark dungeon,
She lays awake at tonight,
Thinking of her family,
And how she may never see them again.
So this little girl cries tonight.

She watches as the other kids play,
For she is not accepted.
A child with out a dream,
For it was taken from her not long ago.
So this little girl cries tonight.

Beaten until she is black and blue,
Told she is worth nothing,
Being kicked out on the streets,
That little girl cries tonight.

She doesn’t know what to think,
She doesn’t know what to do,
She does what she can to make that terrible woman happy,
But in turn is abused,
So the little girl cries tonight.

She cowers when she sees her,
But there is no where to hide,
Her body’s getting tense,
She can see the anger in her eyes,
She yanks her by the had,
As the little girl pleads for mercy,
But she doesn’t give in.
She stripes her up and down,
Until she is satisfied with the damage.
She shows no remorse for her actions.

You can think, “this will never happen to me”,
But it can,
And I know because
This little girl is me.
