I wrote this when I was 11 (now 13), and I just found it again.
It’s Valentine’s Day
I’m dreading it so,
And why?
I guess I don’t know
Well, actually, yes, I do
But it’s something I can’t say,
I mean, why should I tell you?
Well, I guess it’s OK
And I admit it, it’s true
Will I ever be able to say
“I love you”?
I see you every day
I love you in every way
But see me, do you?
Do you see the love that is trying to shine through?
Do you see the girl at the dance
Waiting, waiting for her chance?
Do you see the starlight in my eyes?
Around you, I get mesmerized
Does anyone see the girl right here?
Does anyone see that small, sparkling tear?
I love you
And I know you love me back
But why are you so mean to me in public?
And I always end up asking myself, “What do I lack”?
I’m nice, I’m funny, I’m pretty, and I’m smart in school
But does it really matter
That I’m not so cool?
When I’m sick,
I long to see your face
When I’m near you,
I long for your embrace
Will you grant my wish
For our very first kiss?
And once that day comes,
My life will be full of bliss.
