This is about the The General and its abduction.
The Great Chase

A chase began in Big Shanty
22 men boarded the General
And drove the General away
James Andrews smiled proud

22 men boarded the General
They laughed among themselves
James Andrews smiled proud
For the General he had found

They laughed among themselves
Two men follow after
For the train he had found
Was theirs rightfully

Two men follow after
Chasing after the train
Was theirs rightfully
He failed to burn the bridges

Chasing after the train
Andrews burned a car
He failed to burn the bridges
He failed to make it that far

Andrews burned a car
The two men kept coming
He failed to make it that far
The train was overtaken

The two men kept coming
Their determination was there
The train was overtaken
22 men were taken captive

There determination was there
Rejoice at last
22 men taken captive
The train is ours at last

Rejoice at last
22 men taken captive
The train is ours at last
7 men hang in the breeze

7 men hang in the breeze
A warning to all theives
Those who bear union tees
The General is ours again
